borrowing of yoyos.

i found out that players are taking it for granted when people are nice enough to lend them their yoyos, they don't take care of it, and will keep quiet if they ding it. i think its very important. especially if its a metal one and a anodized one of it. if people are nice enough to let u try it, especially if its not available for trying at spinworkx, or maybe some expensive yoyo u can't afford at the moment, or maybe u wanna try before u buy, PLEASE, take care of it. today i lend my GrindMachine 2 to a kid, whom i don't know... and i was nice enough today to let him try, **usually i won't. i haven't ding my yoyo yet, and i told him don't borrow it to anyone else and be careful not to ding it. he end up returning it to me with the yoyo spinning and the loop still tied to his finger, what a weird way. when i ask why not stop the yoyo before returning to me, he said he was afraid of it dropping. pretty weird reason, wouldn't it be better if u hand the yoyo over to me properly in your hand? by leaving the yoyo spinning at the end of the string with the loop still tied to your finger, its safer? hum. so i stop the spin before i get it from him... after i got it from him he kinda rush off. then i check my yoyo, there's 2 scuff which are not prominent if u see from photo. i assume he got me those. if its not him, he must have lend it to other people w/o my consent, otherwise its him. i assume, because he could have return it to me properly, like how he does the first time( he borrow from me 2 times), keeping it spinning so that spinning so that i won't notice the scuff. **thats why i mention i usually won't lend my yoyos to people, because it'll be too late if u ding it, no point saying sorry whatsoever. ITS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO TAKE CARE OF THE YOYO WHEN PEOPLE ARE NICE ENOUGH TO LEND YOU. atleast own up if u ding it, see, what if the owner din't saw the ding, and he only notice the ding after lending it to another person, he'll think its cause by 2nd person. would it be fair to that person? there are people who don't care about the dings, but there are also people who do. so players, pls be responsible.

back to basic???

before posting we just want to specific somethings because we felt that it was necessary somehow...

firstly, this blog is for everyone especially those that are in Singapore since the blog stated as above. nevertheless, we need you readers to know a few things that are important to us.

1) We try as much as possible not take sides of ANYTHING/ANYONE although we give our own opinion and how we feel.

2) YES! We are given the right to say what ever we want to say in the blog. HOWEVER, this is generally a blog for people to see and so we would not be targeting anyone, doing things like bad mouthing etc.

3) To make sure that what we post wouldn't offend people, we need you guys to tell us how you feel or else we would be posting things that might make people feel that the person was him/her when in actual fact is not!

why are we doing this is because of the tag that aik hwee made "aik hwee: advertising bootlegs. unscrupulous"please do not take it so personally because we just want to justify ourselves that we are not promoting any kind of yoyo or supporting anyone/anything. The interest here is solely based on SINGAPORE YOYO SCENE.

So back to the topic.

Back to basic huh??? I have been thinking about this and i thought it would be good to talk about it. The scene in Singapore had been changing since most of us start officially in 2003. I still remember back then when we started, we are always trying to pass those grading cards that we bought because we wanted to get into the team or something like that. Duncan Crew Singapore at that time was like a dream for us actually. When we start, it was like BASIC, SUPER, HYPER then to freestyle and from the freestlye we would be choosen into Team Spinoworkx Extreme and then to Duncan Crew Singapore (if i remember correctly. tell me if i'm wrong :P). nevertheless, times had change and it has become that kids nowadays just jump straight into Single A mostly and personally i feel it's sometimes surprising to see that they do not even know how to do their basic. Basically, going through the grading card is to get our foundations strong. Any form of practices, be it skateboarding, musicianship and even playing ball games needs basics but i guess things are changing. There is a blog talking about Singapore YoYoing Scene and i fully agree with what he said because thats how i felt too. He is none other then Goh Qing Wen, our current Singapore Single A champion and here is what he has posted. It was quite a long but good post and it was posted a few months ago actually.

"
Next, after being missing for two weeks in the yoyo scene, I've finally met up with my bunch of kick ass friends (Lols). Cheng also asked me a question last sat.

"How's the new kids?"

Well honestly, I've not paid much attention to most cause I cant see any interest in it. Most of them are pretty smooth but I cant see any personal style in it, all the tricks and moves they do, are all the same. Maybe they have not developed their own style yet but it just fails to grab my attention.

The truth is that, I just didnt like the idea of new beginners or intermediate players getting all that bloody expensive full metal yoyos. I cant see the point to do so. New faces that I've not seen for more than 1 year, are getting the top of the line metal yoyos and practicing with them. Theres not point in doing so. There will forever always be new yoyos coming out. They should know the skills matters more than the price of your yoyos. Even if a new kid comes and ask me what yoyo should he start with, I will NEVER EVER tell him a Yoyojam yoyo. I will always tell them to go get a Duncan yoyo. I've never believed that a expensive yoyo would push your skills a step higher and faster than the cheaper yoyos. Its the player that would push a cheap yoyo to its limit and push a expensive yoyo the next level of play.

Well, all this is just my personal feeling about how stuff is, maybe the scene has changed, without anybody noticing.."

So what do u thinking? Is basic important?

Aoda yoyos.

Right... finally up. connection was pretty slow...

so, SY got its hand on some Aoda yoyos aka bootleg yoyos...
First one pictured is a D888.
comes in a case/box... looking good.

the yoyo comes unassembled. one yoyo halves on each side of the box.
comes in more then one color, orange and silver was 2 of the other color.
the white thing u see in between the 2 halves is the replacement pads. they uses a silicon-like texture kind of pads.
and below it is a large KK bearing but not YYJ size, so YYJ large bearing does not fit. below the bearing is the axle.

on the cover side of the case, is the different type of stacks. the center one is the regular white hub-stack... the large one is the bootleg Z-stack... and the smaller one is a mini Z-stack...

assembled. w/o the stack.

comparison between the real thing and the bootleg.
obviously the aqua blue is the real thing.

different kind of stacks...

D888 with mini Z-stacks.

D888 with Z-stacks.

the difference between the YYF Z-stacks and the bootleg Z-stacks...
the YYF Z-stack have a better grip then the bootleg. and its bigger in diameter. abit longer too.

i try putting the YYF Z-stacks on the D888 and it works.

i also tried putting the bootleg stacks on the YYF 888... and they works too.

i'm actually loving it rite now. i mean the mini bootleg Z-stacks..

come stocked, its pretty responsive but after breaking in, it plays pretty well, and it grinds pretty well too... i personally still thinks the YYF 888 is better. but some players from singapore think its about the same as the real thing.

the next thing some bootleg YYJs in an Olympic edition box.
comes in a box with a transparent display.... with the Olympic logo...

comes in a sliding cover, like MG's.
but ofcourse its not made of wood... it uses a board type thingy.

inside consist of 5 bootlegs.
from left to right,
blue and black bootleg which suppose to be either Speeder or NightMoves,
follow by bootleg DarkMagic, and 2 bootleg Hitman.

they all uses small KK bearing with silicon-like respond pads.

except for the DM, it uses a large KK bearing with the same respond.

comparison between the YYJ DM and the bootleg DM.

the hub of the bootleg is different to that of the YYJ DM.
its like that of a speedbeetle...

and heres the comparison between the YYJ speeder and the bootleg speeder/NM.

unlike the bootleg DM, the rest of the Olympic bootlegs has the similar hub to YYJ's...

i've sold my HM so i can't take a photo of it with the bootleg HM...
but they sure feel the same.

i must say ALL these bootleg YYJs plays better and smoother then the real thing stocked. not to mention after breaking in. and i remember reading some post from the forum saying the quality of the bootleg is better then YYJ's, i think its the way Aoda did their weight rings... its hard to explain, u just have to see the yoyo. the moment i play with these bootleg YYJs, the first thing that comes to my mind is, YYJ had better do something. i'm pretty sure if more YYJ users try this, they'll switch to the bootleg. not because its cheaper. but because its better.
