WhaT's NeXt????

after the fun and eating of chill during WCC, it was time to say good bye to the contest and get ready for SYYC which is on the 23 and 24 of May. i'm pretty sure everyone is geared up because it would be the biggest nationals in SINGAPORE!!!! not trying to say that other nationals such as soccer, basketball etc. are not big, but look at what we have... Street Festival giving us support!!!! this is the first time they are supporting us and it would be so big because of the advertisement that they are pressing on which would help us hype our YoYoing scene!!!

THANKS TO THEM!!!!!

not to mention, four of our guys would be on HOLIDAY to Taiwan to meet and greet with the players. i'm sure they would be glad to share their experience when they are back huh??? haha...

lastly, few of the guys where talking about performance points and there quite a bit of argument over the judging system.

lets take performance point for example... for people who had been competing for about 3-4 years, they should understand that 30% would go to performance and 70% to technical. nevertheless, we know that performance points are given to those that do something special on the stage like dancing, acting etc. (or something like that) but here comes the problem...

1) we give full 30% performance points when the player do something special without executing with the yoyo???

2) Again, we give full 30% performance points when the player do something special PLUS executing with the yoyo???

3) we don't give performance point if there wasn't any performance at all??? only technical points are given???

so what do you think??? i bet the judges have each of their own say... some may say performance with or without a YOYO is still a performance but some maybe say otherwise... then why work so hard to follow the rhythm of the music??? people like mickey, koji etc. (or should i say most of the Japaneses) work quite hard both on their technical and performance. people like J.D. , Jason lee pulls of the technical so well but where's the performance???

i don't really know if this would pull off because my English really sux to the core. i just hope people would understand what i'm talking about... -_-///

uncle liang and i was talking about improving our skill and look what i have drawn for him...

Since this question has been put to the floor, I'll give my opinion on performance points bah.

In my opinion, a good performance is based on the ending impression the player can leave to the audience, be it through skilled and complex yoyo tricks or interpretive dance moves.

In other words, to me a performance is basically how I'd feel at the end of a performance from a "non yoyo player" point of view...because some yoyo tricks are complex doesn't mean the audience will understand it....but like for example, Malcolm's beginning part of his FS in WCC would count as "performance" points as well because a non-yoyo player would pretty high chance be wowed by such a stunt as well.

That being said, performance points to me need not be earned through yoyo tricks, and can basically be done through something that ultimately is able to entertain the audience.

BUT, don't forget, when you DO something like a dance, you risk the chance of loosing the other 70% of your freestyle points because you waste time on the "performance"...if your performance is good, then you're lucky you'll earn some of the 30%...but if your performance isn't entertaining, then you'd stand a chance of loosing both ur 30% and 70% as well, so it's a matter of what sort of risk you are willing to take.

Performance too can come from really technical and well executed tricks that make the crowd go "oh...Ohh....OHHH!!!!!" that kind you know. Like for example, when Jia Liang executes really difficult wrap tricks, the crowd goes wild, that not only earns him some of the 70% for technicality, but it also earns him some of the 30% for entertaining the crowd, so he wins both points in my opinion.

Thus, I would like to end by saying that in order to earn the 30%, it's really how you want to go about doing it...whether it's with or without yoyos...you just have to remember what risks your taking when selecting your tactic to gain performance points.

There's no saying as to what is "fair" or "not fair" when it comes to using a yoyo or not to gain performance, don't forget, they all have their pros and cons.

I hope this will help shed some light, got more questions just throw to the floor bah, I think this would make a good learning session =)
